1990 - The homage to Van Gogh : a polyptych for a centenary
Through the simultaneous
global and fragmentary reading of a whole piece, Nicolas Blin explores the “double
image” path; this fundamental step in the painter’s work, in terms of composition
as well as colour, contributes to the Polyptyque pour le centenaire de la
mort de Vincent van Gogh à Auvers (polyptych for the centenary of
Vincent van Gogh’s death at Auvers).
Les neuf éléments mobiles du polyptyique |
The Festival de Musique d’Auvers sur Oise (Auvers sur Oise Music Festival) ordered this polyptych for a dual anniversary: the centenary of Vincent Van Gogh’s death, and the 10th festival in May and June 1990.
This polyptych comprises nine different paintings which were part of the stage decoration for the concerts.
The global view of the polyptych is inspired by the famous église
d’Auvers by Van Gogh, but each fragment gives an account of particular moments
of the concerts played during this prestigious festival. Mounted on a metallic
structure, the paintings rotate, thereby forming or breaking up this homage
to Van Gogh.
